CONSUMPTION OF PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS IN A BASIC PHARMACY OF CONGONHAS, MINAS GERAIS, BRAZIL

Abstract

Psychotropic medications are those that act in the Central Nervous System and can produce mood, behavior, and cognition changes. The prescription and use of psychotropic drugs have been increasing, following the high frequency of psychiatric diagnoses, as well as the new options of drug therapy. It was a transversal and descriptive study, about the prescriptions and users of psychotropic drugs distributed by the Central Pharmacy of Congonhas, MG, during 205-2016. Antidepressants, anxiolytics, anticonvulsants, antipsychotics, and antiparkinsonian drugs were the most prescribed medicines during the analyzed period. General practitioners were the Health worker who most prescribed psychotropic medications. Women represented 64% and 66% of the sample in 2015 and 2016, respectively, possibly due to they were more aware of their treatment, seeking doctors more often than men. Moreover, they fall ill more often due to the burden of domestic work responsibilities and discrimination in work relationships.
